A video of a 15-year-old pre-fame Ed Sheeran singing the song “Mooning” from his school’s Grease musical is up for auction. The DVD is part of a sale of rock memorabilia from Omega Auctions, which claims the video has never been been seen in public before.
“Never before seen in the public domain, complete DVD footage of Ed Sheeran’s performance in Grease when only 15 and attending Thomas Mills High School, Framlingham,” reads a description of the video. “This amazing footage spans two DVDs with nearly two hours of acting and singing as performed by Ed and school friends back in 2006. Ed plays a major part in the performance as the character ‘Putzie or ‘Rump,’ who was one of the T-Birds.”
The sale site says Sheeran has “a number of lines” in the play and acts as a “major” back-up singer-dancer for all of the songs, including a duet on “Those Magic Changes,” and nearly three minutes of soloing on “Mooning.” The video reportedly comes courtesy of a classmate and fellow cast member, with a detailed letter of provenance from the vendor.
Last week, Sheeran teased his return with the upcoming single “Bad Habits.”
