Watch the First Trailer For New YouTube Originals Series ‘K-Pop Evolution’

An upcoming YouTube Original series, K-Pop Evolution, will chronicle the rise of South Korean pop bands including EXO, NCT, Super Junior and Red Velvet.

The series from Emmy- and Peabody-award winning Banger Films will look at the “past, present and future of the global music phenomenon and $10 billion industry known as K-Pop,” according to a statement about the eight-part series slated to kick-off at 9:00 a.m. ET on March 31, with new episodes going up on the YouTube Originals hub every Wednesday.

The show promises “never-before-seen personal stories of life as an ‘idol’ from some of K-Pop’s biggest stars and unprecedented behind the scenes access into how K-Pop groups and global hits are created. Among the other groups profiled in the series are: Baekhyun, BoA, Danny Im, Doyoung, Han Seung Yeon, Ha:tfelt (Yeeun), Hui, Jinho, Joon Park, Kang Daniel, KANGTA, Kino, LEETEUK, Sandara Park, Seulgi, TAEMIN, Taeyong, Tony An, and other singers and insiders.

The statement also promises to take a deep dive into the history of the genre, the cultural forces that shaped it and how the music ties into the history of the nation via first-person interviews and unseen archival footage. An upbeat two-minute preview of the series breaks down crucial elements of K-Pop, from bright lights and vibrant colors to the rigorous star training process, envelope-pushing video concepts and a laser focus on the fan experience, with a special appearance from “Gangnam Style” superstar Psy.
