The Weeknd wasn’t the only one who rocked a stage on Super Bowl LV Sunday (Feb. 7). The post-game Verizon Big Concert for Small Business featured performances by Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, Brandi Carlile, Luke Bryan and pre-game performers H.E.R. and Jazmine Sullivan.
The show — curated and produced by Roc Nation — shined a light on small businesses as part of Verizon’s multiyear commitment to help one million small operators achieve their goals in the digital economy by 2030. With comedian/actress Tiffany Haddish on hand to help present, the show streamed on YouTube, TikTok, Twitch and Twitter as well as Yahoo, FIOS, BET, CBS Sports Network, MTV2/MTV Live and CMT, spotlighting small business owners in packages that ran between the many superstar performances.
The nearly two-hour event kicked off with Keys addressing a socially distanced audience of some of the small business owners and serenading them with the inspiring “Good Job,” followed by Cyrus — who played a full pre-show live concert — rolling out a live version of her cover of Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You” and her signature 2009 hit “The Climb.”
Bryan was next, followed by an acoustic guitar-strumming H.E.R., Carlile and Sullivan, who rocked an eye-popping green and white checkered 1960s pop art mini dress with voluminous sleeves for a swim through her R&B ballad “Pick Up Your Feelings.”
Church talked about hitting up local businesses as a kid on Friday nights after football games as an intro to “Round Here Buzz,” while Howard slid some bubbling blues into the event with the slinky “Stay High” before Keys came back toward the end to uplift spirits with “No One,” and Aguilera shut it down with a soaring “Beautiful.”
