The Trump campaign is calling out “anti-fracking activist” Lady Gaga, who will be joining Joe Biden to show her support for him at a drive-in rally in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the day before the general election.
Gaga talked up those plans, and the Democratic presidential nominee, on social media over the weekend: “I LOVE THIS STATE. I’m here now! This place is filled with good hearted people—good hearted people that @JoeBiden loves. He’s a good friend. He’s the President this country needs to bring us back together.”
Tim Murtaugh, director of communications for Trump’s campaign, released a statement about the pop star’s alignment with Biden on Sunday (Nov. 1): “Nothing exposes Biden’s disdain for the forgotten working men & women of PA like campaigning with anti-fracking activist Lady Gaga,” he wrote. “This desperate effort to drum up enthusiasm is actually a sharp stick in the eye for 600,000 Pennsylvanians who work in the fracking industry.”
The statement continues, “Biden repeatedly promised left-wing activists he would end fracking, which would be an economic death sentence and financial Armageddon for families in Pennsylvania and across the country,” and it and says Trump “supports and defends American energy workers and is the best candidate to make our economy great again.
“Joe Biden will always prioritize the desires of the liberal Hollywood elite and the radical left, while President Trump will always put the interests of blue-collar workers first,” Murtaugh said.
Murtaugh’s statement caught the attention of many people on social media, who know Lady Gaga for many things — anti-fracking activist not exactly being her most common, or notable, identifier.
She seemingly questioned what fracking is on her Instagram Stories, where she laughed off the Trump campaign’s comments on Sunday. “What is a fracking? Keep your jobs PA,” she wrote.
“Yes, the first thing I think of when I think of Gaga is her views on fracking,” one person joked on Twitter.
“Noted ‘anti-fracking activist, Lady Gaga’ LOL. it’s late in the game and someone is throwing some wild ass hail Marys,” another noted.
“That’s Grammy award winning, anti-fracking activist Lady Gaga to you,” someone else pointed out.
“i like some of the gaga songs,” a casual fan tweeted. “but what the f— do she know about fracking?”
