The Wanted’s Tom Parker revealed in an emotional Instagram post that he has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The singer from the British-Irish Boy band that released three albums before going on an indefinite hiatus in 2014 apologized to fans for his recent social media silence over the past few weeks, explaining the reason why he’s been so quiet.
“There’s no easy way to say this but I’ve sadly been diagnosed with a Brain Tumour and I’m already undergoing treatment,” wrote Parker, 32, who has a daughter with wife Kelsey Hardwick and is expecting a second next month. “We decided, after a lot of thought, that rather than hiding away and trying to keep it a secret, we would do one interview where we could lay out all the details and let everyone know the facts in our own way. We are all absolutely devastated but we are gonna fight this all the way.”
According to British media reports, Parker has described the tumor as a grade four glioblastoma, for which he is currently receiving treatment. The cancer has been described as terminal and it came after Parker suffered a seizure in July and then another more serious one six weeks later, which resulted in a hospitalization. “We don’t want your sadness, we just want love and positivity and together we will raise awareness of this terrible disease and look for all available treatment options,” Parker continued. “It’s gonna be a tough battle but with everyone’s love and support we are going to beat this.”
