In a surprising turn of events on The Voice, Reba McEntire took one of Gwen Stefani’s singers after an elimination. This occurred during Tuesday night’s episode, after Team Gwen’s Frankie Torres and Gabrielle Zabosky delivered a duet performance of “Never Tear Us Apart” by INXS.
The two contestants competed fiercely to retain their spots on Stefani’s team. However, the rules required the No Doubt frontwoman to let one of them go. After much deliberation, she ultimately decided to eliminate Torres. Just as Torres began to say her farewells, the sound of the Steal was heard, and McEntire, beaming with excitement, revealed that she had just recruited Torres for her own team.
“I loved her singing. I did a little play there because I did say Gabrielle, so you’d go with Gabrielle [and] I could have Frankie,” McEntire admitted to Stefani, who responded, “Wow!”
“Either way, I was gonna steal because I love your performance, your singing, everything about it,” McEntire told Torres. In a later off-stage interview, Torres expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m so excited to work with Reba… She was my first concert. Her and Kelly Clarkson. I went for Kelly and I stayed for Reba, and it was amazing.”
As the coaches returned to their seats, Michael Bublé remarked to McEntire, “That was some last-minute stuff right there.” To which McEntire replied, “Really tricky.”
Torres, 24, is from Minnetonka, Minnesota, and has been performing since she was eight, joining School of Rock. According to her official NBC bio, she was part of the program for nearly a decade and went on six national tours during that time.
Fans can catch all the excitement when new episodes of The Voice air on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 PM ET on NBC.
