Keith Urban has some excellent timing.
The day before Taylor Swift’s latest album, Lover, hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the country star covered the album’s title track during his performance at the Washington State Fair on Saturday (Aug. 31).
And, of course, Swift loved it. “Keith Urban covering Lover flawlessly,” the pop star captioned a video of Urban performing the song on her Instagram Story. “I am screaming. This is so beautiful.”

Lover marks Swift’s sixth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart and the biggest sales week for any album since her 2017 release, reputation. Lover earned 867,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Aug. 29, according to Nielsen Music.

Urban has previously shared his adoration for “Lover” on social media. “Huge shoutout today to @taylorswift13 on the SUPERB new single LOVER,” Urban tweeted. “When a song so exquisitely written becomes a record so gorgeously crafted I feel such a deep sense of gratitude for the ‘art’ of making music.”
Again, Swift’s reaction was not chill: “ARE YOU KIDDING ME THIS IS THE NICEST THING ANYONE HAS EVER SAID – you’re just the best and so kind to say this,” she wrote back.
Swift and Urban’s mutual respect runs deep. Back in 2009, Swift was opening for Urban on his Escape Together World Tour. On her 1989 World Tour in 2015, Swift invited the country star to the stage as a guest performer.
The pair also collaborated together, along with Tim McGraw, on 2013’s “Highway Don’t Care.”
