We already knew that Taylor Swift was working on re-recording songs from her first six albums. But on Wednesday (Dec. 2) we got the first taste of the efforts and they are devilishly good.
“Okay so while my new re-records are NOT done, my friend @VancityReynolds asked me if he could use a snippet of one for a LOLsome commercial he wrote so…here’s a sneak peak of ‘Love Story’!” she wrote alongside a new ad for dating site Match written by Ryan Reynolds.
“Working hard to get the music to you soon!!” she added.
As promised, Swift is putting a fresh spin on the song from her 2008 smash Fearless. The plucked banjos and twangy residue of TSwift’s early country years are amped up in the muscular, subtly tweaked new arrangement, with her vocals displaying the maturity of now 30-year-old voice.
The ad itself is classic Reynolds, following the love story of a beauty and a cloven-hoofed, horned beast as they fall in love during the pandemic. Or as Reynolds put it, “a match made in hell is still a @Match.”
Swift recently revealed that more than a year after her former Big Machine label Group’s catalog was purchased by Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings — and then, more recently, bought again by Shamrock Holdings — she’s begun the process of re-recording songs from her self-titled debut, 2008’s Fearless, 2010’s Speak Now, 2012’s Red and 2014’s 1989.
Check out the ad featuring a new version of “Love Story” below.
