It might come as a surprise to some, but “Sesame Street” has a long and impressive history of musical guests — a track record that arguably rivals that of “Saturday Night Live.” Over the years, the show has welcomed artists like Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, Erykah Badu, the Fugees, Patti LaBelle, and R.E.M. There have also been some creatively themed performances, like One Direction’s “What Makes U Useful” and Smokey Robinson’s “U Really Got a Hold on Me” — both paying tribute to the letter U — and opera legend Marilyn Horne’s dramatic rendition of “C Is for Cookie.”
The show continues its musical tradition in its 55th season, now featuring SZA, who just released a heartfelt number titled “Gratitude.” In the performance, she joins beloved Muppets Elmo, Abby, and Gabrielle, blending her smooth vocals and unique style into a cheerful and meaningful segment.
Joining SZA this season are a range of high-profile guests, including Noah Kahan, Michael B. Jordan, Samara Joy, Chris Stapleton, Renee Rapp, Jonathan Van Ness, and Billie Jean King. These guests will appear in musical performances and other interactive skits. Season 55 will air on PBS stations nationwide and will also be available through the free PBS Kids Video app in Fall 2025.
The new season will center on teaching kids emotional resilience and well-being, using playful and approachable storytelling to help them understand and manage their feelings.
“New episodes of Sesame Street will help young viewers understand and express their feelings, learn new mindfulness practices, and as always, have a blast with their favorite furry and funny friends,” said executive producer Sal Perez. “Whether it’s taking a volcano breath when angry, learning to give yourself a hug when frustrated, or wiggling it out when disappointed, we are empowering children with the strategies to help build resiliency and the foundational skills for emotional well-being.”
“Sesame Street” receives partial funding support from Beaches Resorts and Google.
