Hot on the heels of Steve Aoki’s induction into the world of mobile games as a playable character in Star Trek Fleet Command, the international DJ and producer drops an energetic electro-house remix of the World Cyber Games theme, “Beyond The Game.”
The WCG is the world’s first international e-sports tournament. Modeled after the Olympics, the WCG includes an opening ceremony, and bronze, silver and gold medals for competitors from as many as 78 countires. It’s been a few years since the last WCG in 2013, but thanks to a revival from its new owners, South Korean video game developer Smilegate, the WCG is back and bolder than ever.
The original theme was performed in a rock style, something akin to the old ’90s theme of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Aoki electrifies its tune, adds a pounding house rhythm and female vocal power to give the song his signature neon sound. It’s a blood pumping anthem designed to get players in the zone.
