Stephen Puth is thinking back on a past love in his new single “Look Away,” released Friday (June 14).
“I don’t wanna think about/ Think about you with nobody else,” Puth’s soothing vocals are heard on the track. “I don’t wanna jump to these/ Jump to these conclusions, but I fell.”
The catchy pop tune marks the first writing collaboration between Stephen and his brother Charlie Puth, the singer/songwriter behind massive hits like Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again,” Liam Payne’s “Bedroom Floor” and his own “Attention.” In “Look Away,” the two write about post-breakup feelings with lines like “Girl, you used to look in my eyes, now you look away,” reminiscing on what used to be.
“When we wrote ‘Look Away,’ we came to realize that before any breakup, there is that fight that ends in silence,” Stephen says. “This song means a lot to me, not only because it’s real, but it is also the first song I’ve ever written with my brother and it pushed us both to make a meaningful story out of a typically small moment in time.”
The track follows Stephen’s debut single “Sexual Vibe” released in December 2018 and ballad “Half Gone,” the video for which debuted via Billboard in early March.
