Sheryl Crow released her latest single “I Know” on May 23 to mark Mental Health Awareness Month.
The song, a gentle ballad, emphasizes the value of empathy and emotional support, as highlighted in the lyrics: “But maybe I could hold your hand/ And count the teardrops as they flow/ And promise never to let go/ I see the struggle in your face/ The only thing that I can say/ Is I know/ I know/ I know how it feels,” accompanied by soft guitar melodies.
Crow, who recently acted as a Mega Mentor on season 27 of The Voice, shared the song’s origin in a social media post on May 23. “In a recent moment when I was really struggling, I picked up my guitar and wrote a song… Sometimes when we’re struggling, just knowing that another soul can relate to what we’re feeling makes things a little bit better. That’s what this song is about,” she explained.
She also praised the efforts of the nonprofit To Write Love on Her Arms, which helps people find accessible mental health services, including therapy.
“And this I REALLY love: they have a ‘Disconnect to Reconnect’ challenge which encourages people to get off social media for two weeks and reconnect to what matters most,” Crow added. “Social media isn’t really great for anyone’s emotional well-being, so encouraging folks to [put] the phone down and enjoy nature, family and friends, music….I do that all the time, and I know how beneficial it is to take a break.”
