If you thought Shawn Mendes was cute, wait ‘till you see a quokka.
Mendes got up close to the cuddly ball of fluff during his visit to Australia. Quokkas are cat-sized marsupials, and they’re only found on some of the smaller islands off the coast of Western Australia, in particular Rottnest Island, a popular spot for visitors to Perth.
Mendes posted a selfie on social media with his furry new friend.
The Canadian pop star can expect to appear in many more photos during his time Down Under. Michael Gudinski’s Frontier Touring Company is producing the nine-date arena tour of Australia and New Zealand, which kicks off Wednesday night (Oct. 23) at the RAC Arena in Perth and is scheduled to wrap Nov. 9 at Spark Arena in Auckland.
Mendes self-titled 2018 LP went to No. 1 on the ARIA Album Chart, his first to do so in these parts, and his “Señorita” collaboration with Camila Cabello has topped the national singles chart. “Señorita” is certified double-platinum, and it’s currently at No. 9 after 17 weeks on the chart.
