Shakira had to cancel her upcoming concert after being admitted to the hospital due to “abdominal pain.” TMZ reports that the singer shared this unexpected news just hours before the show, emphasizing how sudden the situation was.

“I regret to inform you that last night I had to go to the ER due to an abdominal issue and am currently in the hospital,” she posted on social media. “The doctors currently overseeing my care have told me that I’m not in good enough condition to perform tonight.”
“I’m very disappointed to miss the chance to perform today. I’ve been looking forward to connecting with my amazing fans here in Peru,” she added. “I hope to be released and feeling better tomorrow so I can perform. My team and the promoters are already working on rescheduling this date and will let you know soon.”
Shakira is still set to perform in Peru on Monday and seems likely to keep that date. After the second show in Lima, she will head to Colombia, Chile, and Mexico through the end of March before returning to the U.S. for additional shows.
Her world tour began earlier in February in Brazil, featuring a large metal wolf and lots of Beyoncé-inspired elements. Or maybe it’s the other way around, with Beyoncé drawing from her style? Regardless, both artists could easily outshine us all.
This is Shakira’s first tour in quite some time, likely influenced by her ongoing tax issues and her separation from ex-husband Gerard Piqué. She had taken a break from her career due to her marriage and family life.
Although this is a minor setback for the star, things appear to be moving forward positively. We’re wishing her a quick and smooth recovery.
