Post Malone made a surprise appearance at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium Wednesday (April 3) night. He helped close out the annual Bobby Bones‘ Million Dollar Show, spearheaded by radio and television personality Bobby Bones (of iHeartRadio’s The Bobby Bones Show) and his band, The Raging Idiots.
Posty offered up a rendition of Hank Williams’ “Honky Tonk Blues,” a song Williams released in 1952 as part of his Moanin’ the Blues album. Williams’ “Honky Tonk Blues” reached No. 2 on the Hot Country Songs chart; a later rendition by Charley Pride reached No. 1 on the same chart in 1980.
Of course, Post Malone opting to perform a country classic on the historic Ryman stage is just the latest testament to his love of country music. Last November, he performed alongside HARDY and Morgan Wallen to pay tribute to the late country music singer Joe Diffie at the CMA Awards by covering Diffie’s “John Deere Green” and “Pickup Man.” Post Malone has also covered songs ranging from Johnny Cash’s “Cocaine Blues” to Brad Paisley’s “I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song).” He also joined Dwight Yoakam to perform Merle Haggard’s “Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down” during an appearance on SiriusXM Radio.
Of course, he also duetted with Beyoncé on “Levii’s Jeans,” from Queen Bey’s new album Cowboy Carter, and is featured on Hixtape Vol. 3: Difftape from HARDY. Post Malone’s collaborating days continue with his feature on “Fortnight” from Taylor Swift’s upcoming album The Tortured Poet’s Department, which releases April 19.
This year’s Million Dollar Show also featured performances from Sam Hunt, Ben Rector, Jon Pardi, Nate Smith, Megan Moroney and Ian Munsick, benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
