Willy William — the French singer-producer and famed collaborator on J Balvin’s popular hit “Mi WGente” — is ready to start a new venture as an international DJ, and today (July 20) he unveils the video the spicy track “La La La” exclusively on Billboard. The new song and visual highlight the diversity and tradition of African-infused Latin culture, captured through an explosion of bright colors, electronic beats and vibrant dancing.
The video is directed by 36 Grados — the same production company behind the video for “Mi Gente,” which is actually a remix of William’s all-French 2017 track “Voodoo Song.” The track received praise from the likes of Barack Obama, and its official Beyoncé remix went No. 1 on the Latin Hot Songs chart and reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 last October.
With over 1.9 billion YouTube videos to date, “Mi Gente” received more acclaim when it dominated at No. 1 on Spotify Global for 12 consecutive weeks and topped charts cross the world as #1 in 55 countries. And while it’s been one year since William’s launch into global stardom, the French-native is continuing to embrace his culture and redefine crossover pop with his launch as an international DJ.
“After producing ‘Voodoo Song’ and getting a feature by J Balvin and later even Beyoncé on what today you know as Mi Gente, I had to stop for a moment to focus and take it all in. Now I am back with ‘La La La’ that marks the beginning of my international career as a DJ,” William tells Billboard. “I want the people to know me as a pop producer writer and singer, and now also as a DJ who can cross borders with music and my DJ sets.”
“Bringing all of these to an urban and modern world mixing it with Willy William universe, the electronic music,” adds 36 Grados’ Paloma Valencia. “We want to make tradition current.”
