Olivia Rodrigo is expanding the visual universe of her debut studio album, Sour. On Thursday (Oct. 20) the 18-year-old surprised fans with an official video for the slow-burning cut, “Traitor.”
The new visual sees the pop star leaning heavily into a ’90s aesthetic, and features Rodrigo and friends riding around in a pickup truck decked out in neon lights, hanging out at a local arcade and scaling a school fence to gain access to a closed swimming pool — a continuation of where her “good 4 u” video left off. Portions of the nostalgic video clip features Rodrigo filming with a vintage camcorder, the footage later inserted into the nearly four-minute visual.
Shortly after the video’s release, Rodrigo shared behind-the-scenes snaps from the video to her Instagram page, alerting her Livies that they could watch the video on her Youtube channel. “Surprise! traitor mv out now!” the singer wrote, along with several heart emojis.
“Traitor” is the fourth video to come from Rodrigo’s Sour — the track peaked in the No. 9 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in June. The remaining 10 tracks from the record — including the singer’s smash hit singles, “drivers license,” “deja vu” and “good 4 u” — also charted on within the top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a feat that helped make Rodrigo the first female artist, and the fourth act overall, to simultaneously chart 11 or more songs in the Hot 100’s top 30. The 18-year-old became the sixth woman in the Hot 100 chart’s history to have 11 songs on the chart simultaneously, an exclusive club that includes Taylor Swift, Cardi B, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande.
