Normani to Perform at 2021 MTV Video Music Awards After Fans Petition

Normani is set to perform her latest single “Wild Side” at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, the awards show announced Thursday (Sept. 9).

After fans called on the VMAs with the hashtag #LetNormaniPerform to put the multi-platinum pop star on the performer lineup, the show finally delivered. “Are you ready to take a trip to the ‘Wild Side’?” the official VMAs Twitter account teased. Normani, who will bring her Billboard Hot 100 top 20 hit “Wild Side” to life for the television debut performance, will join host Doja Cat, Alicia Keys, Chlöe, Justin Bieber, Kacey Musgraves, Lil Nas X, Machine Gun Kelly, Olivia Rodrigo and many more performers on the stage.

“I don’t know where to start with you guys. you’re my heart and soul and have always stuck by me through all the f—ing adversities,” she tweeted. “First shall be the last and the last shall be the first. MY NATION i love youuuuu. s— bout to be lit IM CRINE.”

Normani last performed her debut solo single “Motivation” at the 2019 VMAs and brought the house down with her phenomenal choreography, courtesy of her “Wild Side” music video choreographer Sean Bankhead. That same year, she won her first solo Moon Person for best R&B for her single “Waves,” featuring 6LACK.

The 2021 MTV VMAs is is set to air live on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on MTV, Paramount+, plus a number of streaming services that provide live television options, including Hulu + Live TV, fuboTV and Sling TV.
