As the month draws to a close, Noah Cyrus has returned with new track “July,” a folk-infused ballad in which she reflects on the continuous cycle of a toxic relationship.
Chill-inducing harmonies layered over simple acoustic instrumentation allow the song’s contemplative lyrics to take center stage, co-written by Cyrus’ friend Peter Harding.
“You remind me every day/ I’m not enough but I still stay,” the 19-year-old belts at the end of the chorus with heartbreaking self-awareness.
Of the track, Cyrus said it’s her “attempt of letting go and walking away from the baggage,” adding that “even though it’s hard and it hurts, there is something beautiful on the other side.”
The song’s accompanying music video, directed by James Pereira, is out later Wednesday (July 31).
