More information about Liam Payne’s condition at the time of his death has been revealed. According to Page Six, the One Direction member had a blood-alcohol content four times the legal limit when he passed away. He died following a fatal fall from his hotel balcony in Argentina while under the influence of various substances.

He had “alcohol concentrations of up to 2.7 grams per liter in blood at the time of death,” as stated in a press release from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 on Friday. According to Alcohol.com, 2.7 grams per liter equals a 0.27 percent blood alcohol concentration (BAC), which can result in confusion, dizziness, and disorientation. The legal limit in Argentina is 0.05 percent. Additionally, it was confirmed that Payne had “cocaine metabolites, methylecgonine, benzoylecgonine, cocaethylene, and the medication sertraline” in his system, officials reported.

The autopsy findings confirmed that Payne died from multiple traumatic injuries, including a cranial fracture, leading to both internal and external bleeding. It was reported that while attempting to escape his hotel room via the balcony, he passed out while climbing. Hotel staff had locked Payne in his room from the outside after reports of his erratic behavior throughout the day. A toxicology report also showed the presence of pink cocaine in his system at the time of his death.

Five people were charged in connection to his death. These included hotel manager Gilda Martin, receptionist Esteban Grassi, who made the 911 call shortly before Payne’s death, and the singer’s friend Rogelio “Roger” Nores, all charged with manslaughter. Braian Paiz and Ezequiel Pereyra were charged with supplying drugs to Payne.

Security camera footage showed that “Payne went down to reception to ask for money” in the early hours of October 14. Text messages revealed that Payne had told Paiz he had “100 US dollars” when Paiz mentioned that “the guy with the cigar just answered me, come later if you want.”
