Naturi Naughton Says 3LW Used a Fake House for Their MTV ‘Cribs’ Episode

On ABC’s new musical drama series Queens, Naturi Naughton plays a member of a ’90s rap group — and it turns out she has some acting experience to pull from, thanks to her days in the pop group 3LW.

In an interview Tuesday (Oct. 19) with The Breakfast Club, Naughton revealed she could relate to her Queens character since she and her fellow 3LW members — Adrienne Haughton and Kiely Williams — appeared on MTV Cribs back in 2001 to show off a house that didn’t even belong to them.

“There are moments when I’m in [a Queens] scene, like, ‘Yo, this really happened to me,’” Naughton said. “I lived it. I was doing a fake Cribs. … MTV did the Cribs and back when 3LW was hot, we had to pretend. But I didn’t have a car, I didn’t have a house, I didn’t have any of those things. But we did MTV Cribs.”

Naughton said she shot an episode of Queens “very similar to that… where you see how fake we have to project this image and I literally did that and had to clean the house by seven o’clock to give it back to the owner.”

In 3LW’s Cribs episode, Naughton’s groupmate Williams said they began leasing a home in Los Angeles after appearing on the TRL Tour but later decided to buy a home in California to record the rest of their album following 9/11. The girl group was best known for their Billboard Hot 100 hits “No More (Baby I’ma Do Right)” and “Playas Gon’ Play,” which peaked at No. 23 and No. 81, respectively.

See Naughton talk about 3LW around the 10:05 mark below on The Breakfast Club. The premiere episode of Queens — also starring Eve, Brandy and Nadine Valazquez — debuts Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
