It’s been almost a month since Melissa Etheridge’s son, Beckett Cypher, died at age 21 following a battle with opioid addiction. On Monday (June 8), the singer gave an update on how she’s handling her grief, mostly by staying busy and fixing up her home studio during the coronavirus lockdown.

“It has healed me, greatly,” she said of the distracting project. “While nothing but time will heal the empty space in my heart, I have been hopeful watching the world rise up and ask for more love.” In a spot of good news, Etheridge said that she’s planning to make an announcement in a few days about her plans to return to music.

“I miss you all and am so grateful for your thoughts and well wishes,” she said. Etheridge shared Beckett with her ex, filmmaker Julie Cypher. The singer released her 15th album, The Medicine Show, in April 2019.
