Rachel Kaplan – Martin Garrix
Martin Garrix is a well-proven dance-pop King, but he’s also a man who loves new sonic adventures. He likes to play house music as YTRAM, he makes funky dance-rap with Maejor as Area 21, and as GRX, he brightens his electro sound with a little extra oomph. Fans know the name for zingy tunes “Pizza” and “Byte,” and today (Aug. 10), he teams up with two other seasoned song slayers, Swedish dance duo Icona Pop and his “In The Name of Love” co-producer CMC$.
“X’s” is a fun, summery, uplifting electronic melody. Pitched-up vocals give the hook sonic depth as emotional violins cry a heartbreaking counter. Icona Pop deliver a perfectly coy vocal performance, bringing to life the too-little-too-late regret of leaving the wrong lover behind. Toy keys lighten the mood, as does the upbeat rhythm. It may be a breakup song, but it’s still all about the get down.
“X’s” is coming to win you back to the dance floor again and again. It’s out now on Garrix’ STMPD RCRDS. Listen to its funky heartbreak below.
