Mariah Carey is the undisputed Queen of Christmas. The singer proved her North Pole bona fides on Tuesday night’s (Dec. 17) Late Late Show when she brought a sleigh full of holiday cheer to the show with a glittery, uptempo run through “Oh Santa” from her 2010 Merry Christmas II You collection. Accompanied by four high-energy young dancers, a piano player and three back-up singers in all-white, Carey stood as tall as a peppermint stick in a glittery, plunging neckline red gown as the pint-sized dancers twirled and shimmied all around.
“Santa’s gonna come and make you mine this Christmas/ Santa’s gonna come and make you mine, oh oh oh/ Santa’s gonna come and make you mine this Christmas night,” she sang along to the hand-clap beat on the stage littered with gifts and a giant tree. “Oh Santa/ I heard that it’s really gonna snow this year/ So I hope Rudolph and them all the eight reindeer/ Get you safely here/ So you can scoop him up/ And scoop him right down my chimney.” And, yes, there were, of course, a series of whistle notes near the end to put a bow on the whole thing.
Carey has plenty to celebrate this season, as her beloved “All I Want For Christmas Is You” finally ascended to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 after 25 years.
