Actor Mark Blum died on Thursday (March 26) at 69 years old due to complications from the novel coronavirus. In honor of her Desperately Seeking Susan co-star, Madonna took to Instagram to remember her old friend, and urge her followers to take the pandemic seriously.

“I Want to Acknowledge the Passing of a remarkable Human, fellow actor and friend Mark Blum, who succumbed to Coronavirus,” she wrote alongside two stills from the 1985 film they starred in together. “This is really tragic and my heart goes out to him, his family and his loved ones. I remember him as funny warm, loving .and professional when we made Desperately Seeking Susan in 1985!!”

“Another reminder that this virus is no joke, nothing to be casual about or pretend wont affect us in some way,” she concluded. “we need to stay grateful -be hopeful- help each other-and follow the quarantine rules!”

In Desperately Seeking Susan, Blum plays Gary Glass, the husband of New Jersey housewife Roberta Glass (Rosanna Arquette), who dives deep into reading personal ads, especially a series of them by a New York City resident named Susan, played by Madonna.

Blum was known for appearances in countless films such as Crocodile Dundee (1986), Just Between Friends (1986), Blind Date (1987), The Presidio (1988), Denise Calls Up (1995) and Shattered Glass (2003), and television series including Mozart in the Jungle, St. Elsewhere, Frasier, The Sopranos, The West Wing, Law & Order, The Good Wife, The Good Fight, The Blacklist and Elementary.
