Lucy Dacus recently experienced a truly special moment as a Lady Gaga fan. After the Boygenius member performed a cover of Gaga’s single “Abracadabra” from Mayhem on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, the pop legend herself left Dacus in awe by sharing glowing praise for the rendition on TikTok.

Commenting on a video of Dacus’ performance on April 2, Gaga wrote, “I LOVE this so much,” followed by a crying emoji. She continued, “wow,” and added, “captures the purity of the song.”

Dacus shared a screenshot of the comment on X shortly after and simply posted, “I’m shaking.”

The cover was shared by BBC the day before. In the performance, Dacus transformed the high-energy, vibrant pop song into a softer rendition, featuring delicate vocals, a mellow piano, and finger-picked acoustic guitar, offering a fresh take on the track. Dacus performed the lines, “With a haunting dance, now you’re both in a trance/ It’s time to cast your spell on the night/ Abracadabra/ Amor oo na na/ Abra ca da bra,” with a contemplative tone.

Gaga released “Abracadabra” in February as a lead-up to Mayhem, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart last month. The single has also reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In March, Dacus released a new album titled Forever Is a Feeling, marking her first solo project since Boygenius’ The Record, which won a Grammy, and her 2021 album Home Video. In a recent interview with Billboard, Dacus reflected on writing deeply personal love songs for her new album, saying, “Once you focus on one thing and one person, it actually recontextualizes everything else. And you realize that every detail is its own universe.”
