Liam Payne’s family has released a statement following the singer’s tragic death on October 16. They expressed their deep sorrow, saying, “We are heartbroken. Liam will always be in our hearts, remembered for his kind, funny, and brave spirit.” They also requested privacy as they support one another during this difficult time.
Authorities in Argentina confirmed that the 31-year-old died after falling from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, sustaining “extremely serious injuries.” Police were called to the scene after reports of a disturbance involving an “aggressive man” in the hotel.
Tributes for Payne poured in quickly after the news broke. Producer Zedd tweeted, “RIP Liam… I can’t believe this is real… absolutely heartbreaking,” while rapper Flavor Flav noted that he had passed away “much too young.”
Payne was part of the popular band One Direction, which also included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson. The group, formed in 2010 on The X Factor in the UK, disbanded in 2015, achieving numerous hits, including “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Best Song Ever.”
He is survived by his 7-year-old son, Bear, from his relationship with Cheryl Cole.
