Lana Del Rey has recorded a new version of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch” for the upcoming Guillermo del Toro film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and the trailer, which features the song, was released Monday (Aug. 5).
The remake of Donovan’s 1966 hit sounds like classic LDR — a timeless take that’s fueled by the “Love” singer’s romantic, whispery falsetto.
“I have admired Lana’s music for a while now and felt in my gut that she would run with ‘Season of the Witch’ — that she would use her alchemy to transform it,” del Toro said in a statement. “She is a great artist and has been an amazing partner with us in this adventure. It is an honor for me to have met her.”
The Lionsgate film was directed by André Øvredal and stars Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, and Natalie Ganzhorn.
LDR also recently announced her forthcoming album Norman Fucking Rockwell, set to be released on Aug. 30.
The full song will be released Friday, the same day the film hits theaters. A snippet of it can be heard in the trailer below.
