Hanukkah isn’t the only festival of lights. Each Autumn, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Newars and Buddhists honor Diwali, one of the most popular celebrations in the Hindu calendar. Diawli symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, truth over ignorance, and good over evil.
The five-day celebration revolves around the darkest night of the year, and participants mark the occasion by dressing in fine clothes, feasting with family, and of course, lighting tons of oil lamps called diyas as well as many candles.
India is the big home of Diwali celebrations. This year, the event kicks off Wednesday, Nov. 7, and all of the country is currently alight with beaming smiles and magical flames. As electronic music explodes across the Indo-Asian continents, dance music DJs and producers join in on the fun.
Native Indian KSHMR is certainly in the on fun, as is ever-popular-in-Asia Alan Walker. Who else is celebrating Diwali? Check the social media posts below to find out.
