Thirteen years after Kim Kardashian debuted her single “Jam,” produced by Grammy winner The Dream, she’s back in the music scene with a new take on the holiday classic “Santa Baby.”
Originally sung by Eartha Kitt in 1953, Kardashian’s sultry version was produced by her brother-in-law, Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker. The song was featured in an episode of the Hulu reality series The Kardashians, where the family recorded several holiday hits. Macaulay Culkin, star of Home Alone, appeared in the video, staring at Kardashian with a blank expression at its conclusion. This release followed Kardashian hosting a SKIMS holiday party.
The accompanying music video, which shows Kardashian wearing a blonde wig and crawling on the floor in revealing outfits, has left fans perplexed as it doesn’t capture the festive Christmas spirit. Some viewers even describe the video as unsettling.
“SANTA BABY – FILM DIRECTED BY NADIA LEE COHEN & CHARLIE DENIS – SONG PRODUCED BY TRAVIS BARKER,” Kardashian captioned her Instagram post. The reactions were mostly negative. Former Beyoncé backup dancer Kyausha Simpson wrote, “Weird energy. Gets weirder and weirder.” One fan commented, “I think I just watched Kim crawl through a crackhouse.” The creative vision behind the video remains unclear.
On X (formerly Twitter), one user wrote: “Curious, who told Kim Kardashian that her new video was a good idea?? Wtaf is she doing/thinking!?” Another user posted: “Kim Kardashian is a gross lady trying to stay relevant, Please stop posting her garbage video….eew.”
The video’s unexpected tone is particularly shocking given the Kardashian family’s reputation for lavish Christmas parties and decorations. Many anticipated the video would have a more traditional holiday feel.
In a twist of irony, the family scaled back their extravagant Christmas Eve celebrations this year, opting for something more low-key.
“Just because we have a lot of construction going on, so we’re doing a really family intimate one that I’m really excited about,” she shared at a SKIMS event, as reported by PEOPLE. “Still dressing up to the nines, because that’s what we do,” she added.
