Kesha stopped by the The Ellen DeGeneres Show to perform her anthem “Here Comes the Change” today (Dec. 12).
Kesha took the stage to perform the moving song, drawing on folk music roots as she played the harmonica along with her band. Kesha belted the song’s hopeful lyrics with emotion, singing, “I hope I leave this place/ Better than I found it.”
Kesha wrote the song for the upcoming Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic, On the Basis of Sex, which is out in theaters on Dec. 25. The film tells the story of a young Ginsburg, long before she was an iconic champion of women’s rights, as she brings a groundbreaking case of gender discrimination to the Supreme Court.
“Here Comes the Change” captures the powerful message of the film, while also drawing strong parallels to Kesha’s ongoing legal battle with Dr. Luke, which began in 2014 when she sued the producer for sexual assault.
