Justin Bieber Reflects on Past Mistake as Hailey Graces the Cover of Vogue

Hailey Bieber is the star of Vogue’s summer issue, a moment made even more powerful in light of something Justin Bieber once said during an argument — something he now openly regrets.

After the magazine released its feature on Hailey on Tuesday (May 20), Justin took to Instagram to celebrate her success. In his caption, he shared a personal story, writing, “Yo this reminds me when Hailey and I got into a huge fight,” and recalled telling her she would never appear on the cover of Vogue. He admitted, “Yikes I know, so mean,” and explained that his hurt feelings at the time drove him to say something hurtful in return. “For some reason because I felt so disrespected I thought I gotta get even.. I think as we mature we realize that we’re not helping anything by getting even … So baby u already know but forgive me for saying u wouldn’t get a vogue cover cuz clearly i was sadly mistaken.”

The couple has grown significantly since that disagreement. Married in 2018, the Biebers recently became parents, welcoming their son Jack Blues last August. In her Vogue interview, Hailey described childbirth as the most difficult experience of her life: “Giving birth was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. … That s–t was so crazy. That was not fun. They broke my water. I went into labor and I labored for a few hours. No epidural, nothing.”

Justin, who also contributed to the article, expressed deep love and admiration for Hailey. “I’ve done a lot of dumb things in my life,” he told the magazine, “but the smartest thing I’ve ever done was marry Hailey.” He addressed the online criticism Hailey often faces, saying, “She’s in the spotlight, and has the attention because of her effortless knack for style, business, art and fashion. And the way she makes being a mom and wife look easy.”

Hailey’s Vogue feature arrived just two days after she and Justin were seen cuddled up at a Stanley Cup playoff game, supporting the Toronto Maple Leafs. Just a week earlier, Justin had honored her on Mother’s Day with an elaborate celebration featuring a romantic candlelit dinner and a live Mariachi band.

Though Justin hasn’t released an album since Justice in 2021 — which held the top spot on the Billboard 200 for two weeks — fans may not have to wait much longer. During the Vogue visit to their home, Hailey hinted at new music in the works, saying, “I forgot Justin is recording, otherwise I’d say let’s get cozy,” as his vocals echoed from another room.
