At the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Day (Jan. 1), Justin Bieber rang in 2021 by unveiling his new single “Anyone” and its accompanying music video.
In the Colin Tilley-directed visual, the pop star portrays a 1940s-era boxer whose powerful love with his other half — portrayed by actress Zoey Deutch — inspires him to train, fight, and eventually overcome a potential K.O. on his journey to becoming a champion.
“You are the only one I’ll ever love/ I gotta tell ya, gotta tell ya/ Yeah, you, if it’s not you it’s not anyone/ Lookin’ back on my life, you’re the only good I’ve ever done/ I gotta tell ya, gotta tell ya/ Yeah, you, if it’s not you it’s not anyone, anyone/ Not anyone,” a tattoo-free Bieber croons on the soaring chorus over blasts of synth and percussion as he wins bout after bout in the boxing ring.
In addition to releasing the video, the singer also debuted the new song live during his televised 2020 New Year’s Eve special, T-Mobile Presents New Year’s Eve Live with Justin Bieber.
The lovestruck track follows previous singles “Holy,” featuring Chance the Rapper, and the Benny Blanco-assisted “Lonely” in the lead-up to the star’s forthcoming sixth studio album, which will serve as a follow-up to 2020’s Grammy-nominated Changes. Back in November, he also collaborated with Shawn Mendes on the fame-pondering “Monster” off the fellow Canadian superstar’s new album, Wonder.
