Don’t even try to “Lie Lie Lie” to Joshua Bassett.

The 20-year-old High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actor unveiled the first single and video off his upcoming debut project, coming soon via Warner Records. In “Lie Lie Lie,” the rising star dismissing a two-faced friend as he proclaims in the sleek, thumping hook: “So you can lie, lie, lie, lie, lie / Go ahead and try, try, try, try, try / It won’t work this time, time, time, time, time / I kiss your a– goodbye, bye, bye, bye, bye.”

The accompanying visual was shot in Joshua Tree where Bassett quarantined for much of 2020. “I wrote ‘Lie, Lie, Lie’ after I found out someone close to me had been lying about me behind my back for a long time,” he explained of the song’s meaning. “It always sucks to hear that someone you thought you could trust would throw you under the bus when it benefits them. It happens to all of us, and I think all you can do is seek out people that build you up rather than tear you down.”

The song follows his previous releases “Anyone Else” and “Common Sense.” Watch the “Lie Lie Lie” video below.
