John Legend and Rita Ora want everyone to know a little secret about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: all of the musical artists lip sync their performances.
Legend came to the defense of Ora on Thursday (Nov. 22) after the British singer came under attack on social media for lip syncing during her performance at the parade.
“Fun fact. We all have to lip sync on this parade because the floats don’t have the capacity to handle the sound requirements for a live performance,” Legend wrote in Twitter.
He added, “Hope y’all enjoyed it anyway. Know that if you come to my shows, the vocals are 100% live!”
Ora responded to Legend’s tweet, thanking him for the support. “Fun fact @johnlegend thank you for clarifying what I was about to also tweet. It’s annoying for us but anyway! All my shows are 100 percent live always have been! When you come to a ORA show get ready! Back to holidays! Have a good one guys!” she wrote.

Shortly after, Macy’s published a tweet apologizing to several performers at the parade who experienced technical difficulties that “were out of the artist’s control.”
“During today’s NBC broadcast of the #MacysParade several recording artists experienced technical difficulties that negatively impacted their performance. We apologize and want fans to know these issues were out of the artist’s control,” the statement reads.
Ora responded to the tweet, thanking them for their honesty about the issue. See the tweets below.
