Jessie J revealed that she spent Christmas Eve in the hospital after being struck with Meniere’s disease, which struck her temporarily deaf and unable to walk. Jessie posted a video of herself singing on Saturday, two days after she was rushed to the ER with the inner ear condition that lead to hearing loss and dizzy spells (vertigo).

“I woke up and felt like I was completely deaf in my right ear, couldn’t walk in a straight line,” she said in an Instagram Story video according to ET Canada.“Basically I got told I had Meniere’s syndrome. I know that a lot of people suffer from it and I’ve actually had a lot of people reach out to me and give me great advice, so I’ve just been laying low in silence. Now’s the first time I’ve been able to sing and bear it. It could be way worse, it is what it is. I’m super-grateful for my health. It just threw me off.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, Meniere’s is a chronic disease that can strike at any age, but usually starts between “young and middle-aged adulthood,” and can also be accompanied by a ringing in the ear (tinnitus) and a feeling of pressure or fullness in the ear.

Jessie seemed to be on the mend by the weekend, however, as evidenced by a post in which she described going to the doctor and then pampering herself after the diagnosis. “Today I… 1. Went to an ear doctor and got told I have meniere syndrome 2. Took a nap 3. Made pasta 4. Dyed my eyebrows 5. Gave myself a facial 6. Covered myself in coconut oil and walked around naked to let it sink in listening to Christmas music. It was as awkward as it sounds,” she wrote along with a smiling photo.

“7. Had a big cry (missing my friends and family in important to let it out and let yourself feel, it just don’t sit in it. Can’t change it so don’t let it ruin your Christmas) 8. Texted with people who make me 9. Wrote down some intentions for 2021. 10. I am now watching Queens Gambit with my finger in my ear I’ve done the first episode 4 times because I zero focus and my ear sounds like someone crawled in and turned a hair dryer on. BIG weird non traditional Christmas Eve vibes…”

She ended the post by sending love to “everyone who needs it, or isn’t alone. We all need some extra love.” By Sunday, Jessie seemed to be on the mend, as she posted a video in which she’s laying down singing about something we can all relate to after the flood of holiday indulging: “can’t stop eating!

Jessie got some positive vibes from Missy Elliott, who knows what it feels like to battle with a chronic condition, as she’s been living with the autoimmune condition Graves’ disease for more than a decade. “Prayers up for @JessieJ for Complete HEALING & STRENGTH,” Missy wrote.
