Just days after it was revealed that “Don’t Tell ‘Em” singer Jeremih, 33 was on a ventilator while battling a severe case of COVID-19, his family has offered an update on his condition. In a statement to CNN, a spokesperson for Jeremih’s family said they first wanted to remind people that “COVID-19 is real and not to be taken lightly. It’s important for people infected to quarantine and let their families and friends know ASAP. There’s no shame in contracting COVID-19, and people that have it need to be responsible and considerate of others.”

The singer, born Jeremy Felton, was reportedly hospitalized in a Chicago ICU earlier this week; at press time a spokesperson for Jeremih had not returned a request for comment. The family reportedly said the use of a ventilator is “rare for a young man his age without underlying conditions,” but that it was necessary because the deadly novel coronavirus has “viciously attacked his body.”

The pandemic, which is wildly spreading from coast-to-coast and forcing renewed lockdowns and restrictions in a number of states, has infected more than 11.6 million Americans to date, killing 250,000. “The family believes daily prayers to God. A great team of doctors and nurses is helping him pull through,” Jeremih’s spokesperson said. ” He’s not out of the woods yet, but progress is being made. The family and friends are praying that he starts breathing on his own soon, and makes a full recovery.”

“Please if you can take a second to pray for my friend Jeremih, he is like a brother to me and he’s ill right now,” Chance the Rapper wrote on Twitter Saturday afternoon (Nov. 14) when the news first broke. “I believe in the healing power of Jesus so if you can for me please please say a prayer over him.”

“pray for my boy Jeremih he’s not doing good this covid shit is real,” 50 cent said. On Instagram, the rapper also wrote, “he’s in ICU in Chicago.”
