Is Spelling No Longer Fun? Taylor Swift Drops Divisive Lyric From ‘Me!’

When Taylor Swift returned with the song “Me!” about four months ago, there was a particular line that stuck out in the lead Lover single: “Hey, kids, spelling is fun!” she sang at the beginning of the bridge with Brendon Urie’s help, trying to instill a love for learning in a younger generation.

Well, on Wednesday (Aug. 21) — two days before the release of her forthcoming seventh album — Swift is taking that moment back. (Maybe spelling wasn’t so fun after all.) The lyric has officially been removed from the Apple Music version of the song, as pointed out first by PopCrave.

n April, Swift defended the lyric during an Australian interview: “So the lyrics, that’s a tone decision that we made in the studio. We literally were like, okay, let’s say ‘Hey, kids! Spelling is fun’ because we want everyone to know that this song is not really serious because it’s not, like, a serious love song.”
