AlienStock may be happening on Sept. 19 in downtown Las Vegas, but the Jonas Brothers had an extraterrestrial visitor at their St. Louis show five days prior: a blow-up alien named Steve.
Those who were at the Sept. 14 show could catch Steve headbanging along to some of his Jonas favorites — especially “Only Human” and “Year 3000” — from the pit of St. Louis’ Enterprise Center. But Steve was really there to hear one of the Jonas Brothers’ deepest cuts in their catalog, the never-officially-released galactic jam “Out Of This World.”
The Jonas Brothers have been playing a different “fan request” every night on the Happiness Begins Tour, and fans have campaigned for their favorite songs with signs, tweets and screams. Steve was this Billboard writer and her best friend’s attempt at telling the guys to sing “Out Of This World,” and though they didn’t, he still felt like a success.
Some fans were all about the inflatable alien, with a few asking if they could hold him up and others laughing whenever he’d dance. While some attendees were a little annoyed to have a blow-up alien in their line of view, it seemed the Jonas Brothers themselves thought it was quite the hilariously random gimmick, even if they didn’t understand the intended reason behind it. Joe, Kevin and Nick each couldn’t help laughing upon first seeing the alien, and Joe smiled when he noticed it throughout the rest of the show. (Even after the Jonas Brothers clearly weren’t playing “Out Of This World,” I felt it was only right to give Steve as much facetime as possible.)
And that facetime paid off: After the show, the Jonas Brothers shared some photos of the St. Louis crowd, including Mr. Alien himself. We had told the bros’ tour photographer, Cynthia Parkhurst, that the alien’s name is Steve — because obviously that’s important — and next thing we knew, the world also knew his name.

Fans were excited to know the alien’s identity (“when jonas brothers fans raid Area 51 and head straight to the #HappinessBeginsTour – we stan our extraterrestrial friend steve,” commented one Twitter user; “We love Steve, the fourth member of the Jonas Brothers,” wrote another), and suddenly Steve felt like a bigger win than my friend and I could’ve imagined. A couple hours after the initial photo was shared, Joe posted three different shots of Steve on his personal Instagram story — proving himself the No. 1 alien fan of his brothers — and Kevin shared a photo of me holding Steve up. Needless to say, it’s totally worth it to bring an inflatable alien to a Jonas Brothers concert.
With three months left on the North American leg of the Happiness Begins Tour, fans can count on seeing Steve again. Maybe next time he’ll hear “Out Of This World.”
