Harry Styles joined the increasing list of acts requiring that fans be either fully vaccinated or provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test before attending one of his upcoming shows.
In an Instagram Story on Wednesday (Aug. 25), Styles wrote, “We are looking forward to seeing everyone as we return to the road! Please know our band and crew will be taking every possible precaution to protect each other so we can bring the show to everyone who wants to attend and we ask you to do the same.”
That means, Styles wrote, that “for the health and safety of everyone attending Love On Tour,” all ticket holders will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the show. Fans will also be asked to wear masks inside the venues on the re-scheduled tour; shows in New York and San Jose will accept only proof of vaccination.
Promoter Live Nation added in a statement that children under 12 can attend the concerts if they provide proof of a negative COVID test within 48 hours of the show. All venue staff at each gig will also be following the same protocols. “Requiring testing, or proof of vaccination, is the best way to protect the health and safety of our crew and fans, and is quickly becoming the new standard for concerts around the U.S.,” the promoter said. “There will be no exceptions to these policies.”
Styles recently pushed back the kick-off to the U.S. tour, from August to September. Love on Tour was originally announced in 2019 and scheduled to begin in April of 2020, but after the coronavirus pandemic forced artists worldwide to cancel their live performances, the tour was rescheduled.
As the highly contagious Delta variant of coronavirus spreads across the country and the leaders of a number of Republican-led states push back against mask and vaccine mandates, Styles joins a a growing list of acts who are requiring fans to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test. Some acts, such as the Killers, are requiring both for some shows, while promoter AEG Live announced earlier this month that all its venues and festivals will insist on proof of vaccination starting in October. Promotions giant Live Nation will also require vaccination proof or a negative test at all its venues and concerts beginning in October.
California and New York recently announced that they would require proof of vaccination for all large indoor events, while the Foo Fighters and returning Broadway shows will also require masks and vaccination proof for entry.
