Singer and songwriter Halsey is stepping into the role of screenwriter. Variety has exclusively learned that the platinum-selling artist is currently working on a dark comedy TV series for Amazon Prime Video.
Halsey, whose real name is Ashley Frangipane, will be the creator, writer, and executive producer of Bloodlust, but will not appear in front of the camera. Ti West is attached as the director and executive producer, with Mark Friedman (“Severance,” “Dispatches From Elsewhere”) also serving as executive producer and showrunner. Anthony Li, Halsey’s manager, will also executive produce. The project is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
Details about the storyline are being kept confidential. The show has been in development for a while at Amazon, with Halsey, Li, and Friedman already involved, but no specifics were released until now.
The series will mark a reunion between Halsey and West. West, who recently wrote, directed, and produced the horror film MaXXXine, the third installment in the X series, had Halsey in the role of Tabby Martin.
Halsey’s acting career includes appearances as herself in A Star Is Born, as well as roles in Showtime’s Roadies and the animated series Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?. She has also appeared in Americana, Sing 2, and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. However, she is best known for her music career, having released hit albums such as Badlands, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, Manic, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, and her most recent album, The Great Impersonator.
Ti West has written and directed the other two films in the X series, X and Pearl, and is known for horror films like The House of the Devil, Trigger Man, The Innkeepers, and In the Valley of Violence.
Halsey is represented by UTA and The Lede Company. West is represented by CAA, LBI Entertainment, and Lichter Grossman. Friedman is represented by UTA and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
