Grimes took to Instagram to announce an upcoming album entitled Miss_Anthropocene in a detailed post on Tuesday (March 19).
“It’s a concept album about the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change: A psychedelic, space-dwelling demon/ beauty-Queen who relishes the end of the world,” Grimes wrote alongside a photo of the pink-haired singer-songwriter, adding, “She’s composed of Ivory and Oil.”
She also mentioned her previously released song, “We Appreciate Power” featuring Hana, as an introduction to the “pro-AI-propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence.”
Echoing her previous post along with the recently released stand-alone demo, “Pretty Dark,” Grimes also wrote that she might even drop an EP or a “few more singles of synth-based stuff” before Miss_Anthropocene. This project would be the follow-up to her 2015 debut LP Art Angels.
As she explained in her post, the project will center around climate change. “Each song will be a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology,” she wrote.
“Climate change is something I’m only ever confronted with in a sad/ guilty way…. Reading news and what not,” she concluded. “So my goal is to make climate change fun (lol..??)…. uhhh… (I mean, everybody loves a good villain… re: the joker, Queen Beryl).. so maybe it’ll be a bit easier to look at if it can exist as a character and not just abstract doom.”
As for features, the singer responded to a fan, writing: “Im supposed to text with Rico nasty tomorrow. And I shuld prob finish that track with Loona, so hopefully those work out.”
