Back in October 2018, Finneas premiered his swoon-worthy pop ballad “Let’s Fall in Love for the Night” on Billboard. The song has continued to gather steam, debuting on the Alternative Songs chart in February, and now the Grammy award-winning hitmaker has given the track an official video today (March 19).

“Let’s Fall in Love for the Night,” which appears on his debut EP Blood Harmony released last October, tells a love story that’s meant to end as abruptly as it started, according to his conclusion in the chorus, “I know better than to call you mine.”

The short-lived love affair was inspired by Finneas’ brief brush with romance while touring in Japan with his sister Billie Eilish, as he previously explained to Billboard: “I was in Osaka, Japan, FaceTiming a girl I’d never met every day and knowing there was nothing I could really do about it. I wrote this song about the day I would fantasize having with her.”

The music video spotlights no swooping gestures for the subject of his affection and rather leaves Finneas by his lonesome, strumming his guitar on a downtown Los Angeles rooftop as he fantasizes a starry-night affair that dissipates when the sun comes up the next day.

Director Sam Bennett shot the three-minute clip in one impressive take featuring the singer-songwriter’s henchmen dancing to the idea of his dreams.
