Faouzia unveiled the video for “Minefields,” her heartrending duet with none other than John Legend, on Thursday (Jan. 28).

“Working with John on this video was such an incredible experience,” Faouiza said in a statement about filming the visual. “We hadn’t previously met in person, having worked on the song together remotely, but things felt so comfortable and light together on set. Despite the long (and cold) days, I had such an amazing time and am so grateful for the countless talented people working behind the scenes to bring this beautiful visual to life.”

As for the track itself, the duo sing about navigating the titular minefields of a rather tortured and tempestuous love affair.

“Now this might be a mistake/ That I’m calling you this late/ But these dreams I have of you ain’t real enough,” Faouzia sings over a pulsating beat before tossing the rest of the verse to Legend, who croons, “Started bringing up the past/ How the things you love don’t last/ Even though this isn’t fair for both of us.”

Melding their voices on the chorus, the pair lament a star-crossed relationship. “These minefields that I walk through/ What I risk to be close to you/ These minefields keeping me from you/ What I risk to be close to you/ Close to you,” they belt out in warbling harmony.

Co-written by Faouzia with Sam Martin, Ali Tamposi, Johnny Goldstein and J Kash, “Minefields” serves as a follow-up to Faouzia’s debut EP, Stripped, which dropped in August 2020 and features acoustic versions of her previously-released singles like “Tears of Gold” and “How It All Works Out.”
