After more than half a century in front of the mic, Elton John is clearly not ready to slow down. In fact, if a tease he dropped in the latest episode of his Apple Music radio show Rocket Hour is any indication, he may actually be preparing to speed things up.

The revelation came during a chat with fellow English singer/songwriter SG Lewis, whom John said he would “desperately” like to collaborate with on a song. Elton praised the impressive list of guests on Lewis’ swinging debut album, Times, which includes songs with Rhye, Nile Rodgers, Lucky Daye and Robyn, among others, while blowing the 26-year-old Reading singer’s mind with his generous offer.

“It would be my absolute honor, honestly,” Lewis said of the potential songwriting connection, prompting John to drop a tidbit of news. “I’ve just done something with Metallica [and] during this lockdown period I’ve been working with Gorillaz and people like that. I haven’t been doing any Elton stuff, I’ve been doing great stuff with other people. So I’ll get you my email, email me and let’s get together and do something, okay?”

It was unknown at press time what project John is working on with Metallica, though Miley Cyrus recently told England’s Capital FM that the legendary piano man will appear on her planned Metallica covers album, revealing that he will play piano on her version of “Nothing Else Matters.”

“I did a Metallica cover of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ featuring Elton John on the piano. I’ve got Yo-Yo Ma, Chad Smith. So many all-stars [are] in this band,” Cyrus told Capital FM in the January interview.
