Ellie Goulding dialed in to The Late Late Show With James Corden on Thursday night (May 7), where she chatted with the host about her upcoming album, set to arrive this summer.
“The album’s got two sides to it. The first side is entirely written by me and I play most of the instruments and I produced it and did everything,” she explained. “The second half is kind of—the best way to describe it is like an alter ego where I’ve released all the songs that have ended up on the radio and the songs that I’ve written with other people, and perhaps not as serious or as heartfelt, but still my songs. I have to separate them because it’s just not the same.”
She also noted that while this past week in quarantine has been “quite tough” due to a leg injury, the singer has been working on new music. “I’ve been playing guitar a lot more,” she explained. “My fingers have got those guitar fingers again where they get really callous-y. I’ve been teaching myself piano, so I’ve literally got no excuse but to write music.”
Goulding also delivered a quarantined rendition of her blackbear collaboration, “Worry About Me.” The performance featured side-by-side clips of the artist singing and playing instruments. At some point, she’s seen hanging up her to-do list for the day on the refrigerator. Her tasks include taking a walk, getting a dog, baking banana bread, cleaning out the litter box and, of course, catching up with James Corden.
