The track appears in the film ‘Alita: Battle Angel.’
Dua Lipa unveiled a new track “Swan Song” and accompanying video on Thursday (Jan. 24).

Amid a futuristic, post-war world setting, Lipa wanders around the smoke-filled streets of Iron City, sporting heavy gold and silver chains over a black leather crop top and pants. “The flicker burning, you know the time’s running, running out/ Only I see all the diamonds, diamonds/ Breaking down/ I won’t stay quiet, I won’t stay quiet/ ‘Cause staying silent’s the same as dying/ I won’t stay quiet, the flicker’s burning low,” she sings.

Lipa and others then try to outrun the looming threat of daunting drones who go to take captives. Lipa later reemerges in another setting, almost as if waking up from a nightmare, where she faces herself in a mirror.

The track appears in the upcoming action film Alita: Battle Angel, and with dark eye makeup and an ensemble of a flowy crop top and pants, Lipa channels the titular character of the film as she practices fight stances for an imminent battle.

The video’s director, Floria Sigismondi, explained the deliberate connection between Lipa’s video and the film in a statement.

“While in the film Alita is quite literally on a journey to discover who she is, her story serves as a really powerful allegory for any girl who doesn’t yet know her own power,” Sigismondi stated. “I wanted to play with that same profound notion by dropping Dua into a facet of Alita’s world and allowing Alita to serve as a surrogate that leads her on a journey to discover she’s stronger than she ever could have imagined.”
