Dua Lipa announced that she will co-write the new single “Swan Song” for Twentieth Century Fox’s newest action-adventure film Alita: Battle Angel.

Produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau (Avatar) and directed by Robert Rodriguez (Sin City), the new film is an epic adventure of a powerful young girl, Alita, as she awakens in the future with no recollection of her past. With the help of her friends, Alita learns to love her new world, however, she begins to uncover secrets from her past that could potentially change the future forever.

“From the moment we saw her video for ‘New Rules,’ we knew that Dua Lipa would be the perfect artist to do a song for Alita: Battle Angel,” Producer Jon Landau said in a statement. “She has the kick-ass strength, power and attitude in her performances that Alita embodies in the movie. Jim, Robert and I are thrilled to have her onboard and are confident she will make ‘Swan Song’ the perfect inspiring and empowering anthem for our film.”

Lipa has already expressed her excitement for the new single as well as the film. “I am intrigued at both Alita herself, and the amazing team of creators that came together to make this movie possible,” Lipa said. “I see a little of myself in her, in both her badass spirit and our shared haircut. Alita is all about empowerment and standing up for who you are, which are two things that resonate with me.”

The pop star also took to Instagram to announce the exciting news. “So proud to be involved in such an incredible movie with a badass female protagonist,” she wrote.

Alita: Battle Angel stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly and more, and is set to release on Feb. 14, 2019.
