Demi Lovato sang a hilarious version of one of her biggest hits on The Tonight Show on Thursday night (June 25). You know the one, “Apologize to My Infant.” Okay, fine, she was playing Google Translate Songa with host Jimmy Fallon and after feeding “Sorry, Not Sorry” into the Google machine, somehow it became about a mini mea culpa.
Lovato was, of course, up for the challenge, singing such head-scratching lyrics as, “Now I lied to my dog/ And my child is the worst/ You’ve watching the sex time/ And I don’t know where it is/ And I would have liked to make it more agreeable but no/ I will apologize (to my infant).” Fallon joined in on the now super weird chorus, which concluded with, “Feeling sick made me again feel sick/ I knew that you’re standing on top of me… I was affected by the twisting of boards/ I think it’s hot when I’m on fire.”
Somehow, though, they made it all seem totally normal. The bit began with Lovato singing Katrina and The Waves’ iconic new wave summer hit “Walking on Sunshine,” which became “Now Mom’s in the Sun Now.” And it go stranger from there, with Lovato bouncing in her seat as she sang those legendary opening lyrics, “There was a time when bees loved me/ And thought I could grind/ And I will not wait for you to hit the sun with a door/ I will congratulate you on grasping email.”
Fallon took a turn with Lewis Capaldi’s, “Someone You Loved,” which inexplicably became “All My Favorite Carpets.” The lyrics made no more sense, beginning with, “Please comment that/ This is too similar/ I hope I got excited about having my ouch/ I lost his blood/ During the dusk/ Please try to make it into my section.”
The pair also talked about Demi’s role in the new Will Ferrell comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, which is out on Netflix now. On Thursday YouTube announced a new four-part docuseries with singer, a follow-up to her 2017 YouTube Originals doc, Simply Complicated.
