San Francisco DJ, producer and vocalist Navid Izadi died in a plane crash on Sunday. He was 32.
Born Navid Hakimi, the artist was an ember of the Wolf + Lamb and Soul Clap musical collectives. According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, Hakimi was one of five passengers killed after their Cessna 414 flight crashed into a Santa Ana shopping plaza after the pilot declared a sudden “emergency.” Hakimi was with his mother and some of her work associates, who also died in the crash.
He was a friend and collaborator of Soul Clap, Pillowtalk, Angelica Bass and others. He released the funky, electro-influenced album Ain’t Got the Time in 2012, followed by 2013’s Prince-inspired Feeling Purple EP, which included a prominent remix from Soul Clap. His EPs Once Upon a Time and Messin followed in 2014 and 2015 respectively. His style was always groovy, dark and sensual, with slight psychedelic and even eerie undertones.
Hakimi is remembered for his soulful sound and kind spirit by his friends, family and peers.
RIP Navid Izadi . His set at @soulclap 's party in Detroit a few years back was mesmerizing. A set that's burned into my (Kyle) brain forever. Prayers and love out to his family especially his young son.
